2020 Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Resort in Australia. And the winner is…
A long time ago, the DownUnder Adventure Company was privy to a secret many others did not know about. However, it is hard to keep a shining star under wraps for too long. In this case, it is Capella located on Lord Howe Island whose shine cannot be dimmed.
Capella Lodge has been voted the best resort in Australia in the Condé Nast Traveler 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards in the Australia and Pacific category. More than 715,000 readers submitted a record number of responses rating their travel experiences from across the globe. Capella’s owners James and Hayley Baillie said the recognition was especially valued in a year when travelers have had time to plan their next adventures to off-grid locations where nature was the main attraction.
‘Lord Howe has been a favorite family holiday destination for us over generations and we consider the awards a reflection of a new era of conscious travel, where the chance to make a positive impact on the environment and communities in which we holiday will play a greater role.’

Lord Howe Island, and Capella in particular are a great option for those looking for a reef experience. Of course, everyone thinks of the Great Barrier Reef when they think of Australia, but if you happen to be there during the wrong time of the year, you could be jumping on to the Great Barrier Reef in the middle of the Stinger or Jellyfish season.
While Lord Howe Island is not actually a part of the Great Barrier Reef system, it is a great place to visit for a unique, highly catered experience in a magical setting where rainforests meet the reef.
Please call in and speak with one of our specialists to see how we can get you to this unique and not so secret place.
Cheers,
