Spotlight: 28 Gates – Farm stay in Tasmania
This week we will focus on a great property that offers a unique stay and an authentic glimpse at life on a farm!
We all love taking vacations to get away from the humdrum of city living and escape our jobs and day to day routines. What if you delved into a style of living so remote from what you are used to in a beautiful setting that is as relaxing as you hope?
I am talking about a Farm stay where you spend a few nights at a working farm, in particular 28 Gates which is about one hour west of Hobart, Tasmania. Staying at 28 Gates is booking an experience, where they you will be welcomed with open arms to this authentic lifestyle with true Aussie hospitality.
This farm has been in the family for many generations and is run by a lovely couple, Michael and Susie Parsons. The have three children. Mike is 6th generation farmer. He enjoys sports and recreational fishing, boating and spending time with family and friends. He is a passionate farmer and as a person, is constantly moving forward and trying new things on the farm like solar panels, irrigation, droning and on.
Susie grew up in Tasmania and married Michael in 1998. Their love of the farm and where we live is apparent in their enthusiasm for welcoming guests. She enjoys being active, gardening, arts and crafts and music. 28 Gates is her passion and ‘baby’.
“I love meeting new people and seeing guests relax at 28 gates and cant imagine doing anything else.”
Guests have a chance to see the 5500 acre property that runs 10,000 Merino sheep, mostly for fine Tasmanian wool and also for free-range grass fed lamb. Life on the farm is constantly changing that also has 120 head of Angus cattle!
Guests will have exclusive use to a converted shearers’ quarters that is modern and stylish this two story homestead with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that accommodates up to 6 people. There is a full kitchen that you can stock with your favorite goodies to cook or you can have lunch and dinner catered for an extra fee.
There are lots of activities to do on site like fishing, walking the property, enjoying a picnic hamper in the bush or on your second story balcony, lots of great day walks in the area, or just curling up by a fireplace and enjoying some down time.
A stay at 28 Gates is a stay in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by genuinely great people who love sharing their lives with guests interested in farm living.
