  >  Main   >  UPDATE ON AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES & HOW YOU CAN HELP

By now you will have heard about the bushfires that have been impacting parts of Australia. We are heartbroken by what has happened and grateful to all the tireless people who have been working so hard to protect our beautiful environment and communities. In some ways, the fires have brought out the best in humanity and it is so heartwarming to see everyone coming together at this difficult time.

Impact for International Tourists

Whilst the fires have caused issues for many domestic holiday-makers, from an international tourism standpoint, the fires have only seriously impacted a few of the most popular tourist destinations – the Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands and Kangaroo Island. The vast majority of Australia is unaffected, open for business and is completely safe to visit.

We have been working with all our in-country ground operators to ensure that our clients have alternative options if the bushfires are impacting their journeys.

How you can help

We have been asked how people can help during this crisis. The best way to help is to continue to travel to Australia here with confidence – Australia is a large country (similar in size to the USA) and there are plenty of incredible places still to enjoy.

If you would like to donate to help victims of the fires, below are some organisations that we recommend:

Help wildlife
WIRES (Wildlife Rescue and Education Service)
Mogo Zoo
Port Macquarie Koala Hospital
Wildlife Walkabout Park
Kangaroo Island Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal
Wildlife Resuce South Coast
Native Wildife Rescue

Help people
Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief
St Vincents de Paul
Salvation Army

If you have any questions or doubts regarding travel to Australia due to the fires, please speak to myself or one of the DownUnder specialists.

Thank you,

Alison Nolting – Director of Tours & Development
